What
are Agents?
Microsoft Agents
are onscreen cartoon characters that talk to you. On this website, there are 2
main pages that use Microsoft Agents:
- Agents
are an integral part of the Jeopardy-style game board
- Agents
are also used when creating games, categories, and questions. The Agent can read
your question and answers back to you so you'll know how he will pronounce them
in the real game. If you don't like the default pronunciation, you can provide
optional phonetic spellings for words and phrases.
What software do I need?
Depending on your versions of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Internet
Explorer, you may already have all the software you need to make Microsoft
Agents appear and speak to you. If Peedy the Parrot does not appear and read off
the categories to you when you start a game, install the following pieces of
free
software:
- Install
MS Agent Core Components. 395KB download
- Install
Text-to-Speech engine. 1MB download
- Install
SAPI 4.0 speech runtime support. 824KB download. This is especially true
if you have Windows XP!
- Install
Peedy Animations. 3.3MB download
- Install
Merlin Animations. 1.8MB download
- Install
Genie Animations. 1.6MB download
- Install James
Animations. 3.2MB download
Note: As of July 2004, PED asserts these downloads as safe for your
system. The first 6 links download software directly from the
Microsoft.com website. The 7th link downloads a character from a popular
Microsoft Agent website. To learn more about Microsoft Agent, visit
